Briggs & Stratton Engines use a 3-part serial number. The first part is the model number, which tells us many things about the engine. The second part is the engine type number, which sill describe many different specifications about the engine. The last section is known as the code number, which describes the age of the engine.

Below are a few examples of where you should look to find your serial number. There are also some videos that can be useful to help you find the correct serial number. Some common areas include: stamped into the front of the engine above the spark plug, stamped on the sheet metal tab directly above the muffler either the right or left side of the engine, and on the front of the engine in between the OHV cover and the air cleaner.
